Welcome to the Independent Living Unit
The independent living unit has been developed to provide our year 11’s with focussed learning opportunities for when they leave us. The unit will run following the club structure already in place at Brompton Hall. The pupils will return to their respective boarding units before bedtime.
The unit aims to build on the lessons during the school day and on the units by implementing a “hands on” approach to try and give a “real world view” to the skills they have learnt. Important skills including finance, budgets and running a household are covered in short sessions. The boys will budget for the week, then prepare meals as a group. Laundry, ironing and other household tasks will take place.
We recognise that Year 11 can be a stressful time for our learners. The Independent Living Unit will also provide an area in school where they can spend time away from the younger boys in school. They will be able to use this time to relax and unwind. It will also be an area they can study for exams away from the hustle and bustle of our busy school.
Staff from the two older units, Bransdale and Glaisdale, will work on the unit to help provide stability and continuity.
