Brompton Hall School Careers Action Plan 2020-21
Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic the ability to complete these milestones as planned may be affected due to post 16 providers or employers not being able to support in the planned way. Some of these events may need to be changed to digital formats.
Brompton Hall School Careers Action Plan 2019-20
Area of Need | Action | Review Summer 2020 |
A stable careers programme |
|
A stable careers programme is in place, this is evidenced by being awarded the Quality in Careers Standard and the completion of the Teach First Careers Leader Programme by the schools Careers Leader. |
Learning from labour market information |
|
Due to behaviour of some Y10 students we took a combination of Y10 and Y9. Excellent workshop in Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre. Fair was busier than last year. Looking ahead try and identify a quiet time for our students to attend.
Careers talks did not take place as planned due to Covid19. The Young Enterprise programme was started but became too hard for our students to participate in fully- will investigate Steam School next year. |
Addressing the needs of each pupil |
|
Excellent preparation by Coventry University. Y10 and Y11 have had different taster sessions. Feedback was positive from both groups. Understand what University is for.
Year 11 completed good CV through the NCFE Employability course. Mock interviews were undertaken for the first time for Year 10 and 11. These were successful. Plan for next year is to do these with Enterprise Advisor to support NCFE course further.
Careers advisor attended Year 11 Annual Reviews and will do so next year for Year 10 and 11. |
Linking curriculum learning to careers |
|
Classroom posters completed and formed part of the award for the Quality in Careers Standard.
An increase in linking on 5 minute lesson planning and student feedback is there is an increase in signposting by teachers in comparison to last year.
|
Encounters with employers and employees |
|
Successful school careers fair held again.
Some Y10 and some Y10 students had opportunities with staff support to engage with employers.
Due to Covid19 these did not take place. For Years 9-11, online interactions were placed online when students were walking from home. Very little evidence that these took place. Year 10 students who were in school (4 students) participated in this work.
Excellent talk with Army. Students engaged and thinking about skills.
May need to develop online encounters for 2020-21 due to Covid19. Steam School to be launched. |
Experiences of workplaces |
|
Some Y10 students were unable to attend due to behaviour and a holiday.
Covid19 stopped the Summer Wex placement (2 Year 11 students completed within school though). Students working from home were signposted to complete virtual work experience but little evidence that this took place.
Visits did not take place due to Covid19 |
Encounters with further and higher education |
|
Excellent Careers Fair.
Year 9 taster day did not take place due to Covid19. Plan is to complete it next year when safe to do so.
Excellent preparation by Coventry University. Y10 and Y11 have had different taster sessions. Feedback was positive from both groups. Understand what University is for.
Year 10 taster day took place- some students completed it well. Some behaviour was poor and did not perform well. Next years Year 10 to complete it. |
Personal guidance |
|
Excellent personal guidance offered as evidenced in Quality in Careers Standard feedback. Sue James is leaving and being replaced by Allison Fletcher as the Independent Careers Advisor. |
