Key Stage 3:
In KS3 our students develop their basic skills and techniques through a range of projects such as; observational drawing, portraits, graphic design, landscape and ceramics. This is intended to build confidence in their ability as well as developing skills.
Students learn to analyse and evaluate their own work, and that of others, in order to strengthen the visual impact or applications of their work.
Students learn about the history of art, craft, design and architecture, including periods, styles and major movements from ancient times up to the present day.
Key Stage 4:
In Years 10 & 11 students follow the AQA GCSE full course, building on the skills developed throughout KS3. Lessons are specifically developed to ensure students are encouraged to further develop their creativity, imagination and the practical skills for communicating and expressing ideas in art, craft & design. Assessment is by Unit 1: Portfolio of Work (Controlled Assessment) 60 per cent and Unit 2: Externally Set Task 40 per cent.
Art & Design: Photography
Key Stage 4:
Where possible, in Year 11 students also follow the OCR GCSE in Art and Design: Photography. Lessons are specifically developed to ensure students learn about composition skills and are encouraged to further develop their creativity, imagination and the practical skills for communicating and expressing ideas. Assessment is by Unit 1: Portfolio of Work (Controlled Assessment) 60 per cent and Unit 2: Externally Set Task 40 per cent.
